1990, c’était à une époque où le gouvernement appliquait une législation pour éradiquer les festivals gratuits et les mouvements rave de Grande-Bretagne. Les Spirals se sont rapidement fait une réputation pour leur politique sans compromis, consistant à maintenir vivant l’esprit de la musique libre pour un peuple libre. En quelques mois, le nombre de personnes assistant aux fêtes était énorme et il s’est avéré difficile de trouver des lieux secrets suffisamment grands dans les centres-villes. Et c’est ainsi qu’à l’été 1991, le collectif Spiral Tribe fait irruption hors des confins de Londres et dans la campagne britannique. Jouant dans la nature, sous les étoiles, Spiral Tribe est devenu un symbole de résistance aux anciennes hiérarchies d’oppression et d’exploitation. Mais alors que leur popularité continuait de croître, la détermination des autorités à les traquer et à faire taire leur air rebelle a également augmenté. Bien que plusieurs Spirals aient été arrêtés pour complot en vue d’organiser le puissant festival gratuit de Castlemorton Common, le Sound System a réussi à s’échapper en Europe continentale. Là-bas, le convoi sans cesse croissant d’anciens camions militaires a continué à constituer un énorme réseau souterrain après avoir culminé avec la fondation du mouvement mondial Teknival et du studio d’enregistrement communautaire Spiral.

1990, This was at a time when the government were enforcing legislation to eradicate the free festival and rave movements from Britain. The Spirals quickly got a reputation for their no-compromise policy of keeping the free spirit of music alive – and kicking. Within a few months the number of people attending the parties was enormous and finding secret inner-city venues big enough proved difficult. And so it was, in the summer of 1991, the Spiral Tribe collective burst out of the confines of London and into the British countryside. Playing out in the wilds, under the stars, Spiral Tribe became a symbol of resistance to the old hierarchies of oppression and exploitation. But as their popularity continued to grow so too did the authorities determination to hunt them down and silence their rebellious tune. Though several of the Spirals were arrested on charges of conspiring to organise the mighty Castlemorton Common free festival, the sound system managed to escaped into mainland Europe. There, the ever-growing convoy of ex-military trucks continued to drum up a huge underground following culminating in the founding of the world-wide Teknival movement and the Spiral community recording studio.
